The Harvey Girls were young, single, intelligent women who were also of "good character" and had a sense of adventure that propelled them to unknown territories to work as waitresses. Historical fiction and Christian author Joyce Valdois Smith will share how the girls who defined hospitality in the Wild West of the 1880s influenced her historical fiction novels.

The Republic Branch Library opened in 1961 as a consolidation of book deposits held at several locations in this western Greene County city. The branch has relocated five times as use of the library continues to grow.
